The IDB Parenting Grant will support the Ministry of Educational Transformation (MEDT) in designing and implementing a Parent Education Program (PEP) to strengthen positive parenting across Barbados. Parenting programs are proven, evidence-based interventions that equip parents with knowledge, skills, and strategies to better support their children’s development, manage behavior, and build nurturing family environments.
This initiative will focus on parents of vulnerable and at-risk children, especially those facing socioemotional, cognitive, or developmental challenges. By providing tailored resources and practical tools, the program seeks to transform parents from passive participants into active partners in their children’s education.
Through targeted interventions, PEP aims to increase parental engagement, foster resilient families, and improve child outcomes. Ultimately, the program will help ensure that no parent feels unsupported—laying a stronger foundation for children’s well-being and contributing to Barbados’s long-term educational and national development goals.
