Skills for the Future II

With support from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), this programme aims to enhance the quality, equity, inclusiveness, and sustainability of Barbados’ education system through four key components:

Component I: Curriculum Reform and Development Strengthening the quality of teaching and learning by introducing four new subject areas—computer science, fintech, climate change, and the blue and green economy—into the secondary curriculum. These additions align with Barbados’ current and future labour market needs and national growth strategy.

Component II: Inclusive Education Advancing a more inclusive education system through technical assistance to develop an Inclusive Education (IE) policy and implementing special needs services in five selected primary schools. This component also supports creating low-carbon, climate-resilient schools and ensuring safe, adequate learning environments for all learners.

Component III: Physical and Digital Upgrades for Sustainable, Resilient Infrastructure Improving the sustainability and resilience of school infrastructure by upgrading 10 primary schools to meet best-practice standards and national building codes, while strengthening their digital capabilities.

Component IV: Improved Sector Management Enhancing system-wide management by providing technical assistance to the Ministry of Educational Transformation for the ongoing implementation of the Open Education Management Information System (EMIS) across public nursery, primary, and secondary schools.
